Over the past couple of years, different abandoned dog stories have made their way on the internet to create awareness and shed more light into the dark corners of these dogs’ lives, the damage and consequences that being abandoned can bring to them as well as the loss and trauma they’ve to manage for the rest of their lives. Despite these widespread narratives of these sides of their stories, the number of abandoned dogs on the streets, small villages, shelter entrances, dense forests, and dilapidated buildings continues to grow unusually. This remains devastating and heartbreaking to see these dogs find their way as a result of the confusion and heartbreak they suffer after being abandoned. This is the sad story of a mother dog (a Siberian husky) on the verge of death and her puppy, later named “Bobby” whom she tries to get help for as soon as possible before she dies after they had been abandoned in a dilapidated apartment.

THE TERRIBLE BEGINNING.
On a rainy afternoon, the two members of the rescue team swooped in to take on saving the mother dog and puppy after they had been called numerous times to be told that the mother-puppy duo was in dire need of help and it was urgent, to say the least. On arrival, they met the mother dog in a miserable state, skinny, emaciated with her ribs evident under her skin. What had kept her going despite being helpless was getting help for her living puppy as she had lost one of the two puppies she had at birth, she could barely stand up, and her legs were shaky from starvation as she must have tried to keep the puppy alive by breastfeeding her and that had drained her physically which was evident for all to see. The loving and supportive puppy in return tried his best to get her up as much as his strength could afford him. The duo were rushed to the hospital in an attempt to save them before it was too late. They later found the dead puppy in the nearby bush while they were investigating if she had other puppies so they wouldn’t leave any of them behind.
The puppy’s condition was reassuring but the mother dog’s condition wasn’t encouraging as life slowly began to seep out of her. The doctor had told them that the mother wasn’t responding and had a very slim chance of survival. The puppy would coil up on his mother as if he was transferring some of his strength and health to her like he understood the sacrifice she had made to keep him alive and she was dying. Compared to what their rescuers had thought about the mother dog’s recovery, her health kept deteriorating day by day. The mother dog was transfused with blood alongside other medical remedies she was on and throughout all of this, the puppy never left her side as if she was protecting his mother from an impending danger.
The medical team tried their best to save this mother dog so the mother-puppy duo would get a better shot at life but it wasn’t enough as one night three days after, after they had their meals, the mother dog closed her eyes never to open them again. It was as if she was now sure the puppy was in safe hands, would get the best life, and could now rest peacefully.
The poor puppy cried out when the following morning his mother refused to open her eyes, he tried tapping her awake by putting his paw on her body like he used to wake her up but it was too late, the mother dog was buried and the puppy went into depression, mourning both his mother and his sibling who had died before safety. He stopped relating with anyone and would sleep in a corner on his hospital bed.
Everyone’s heart was broken and they sympathized with him as they understood the depth of his grief in return for being there for him and compensating for his mother’s absence, the love, care, and support were transferred to him to help him get through the most difficult time of his life. He soon began to recover and heal despite the huge loss he had recently had and his feeding habits also improved, a toy was gotten for him to hold and cuddle to feel less of his mother’s absence.
Day by day, he started to gain weight and come out of his shell by making friends with the other dogs in the clinic and playing with the staff and the workers who had saved him, wanting to show them he was grateful even though he was still battling with grief. With love and kindness, the puppy made a full recovery and was discharged in no time. He was taken to the shelter where he would make new dog friends and have the best chance of getting a loving and caring family. He was given the name “BOBBY”.
BOBBY, THE BELOVED DOG.
In contrast to the worker’s hope and expectation for someone to adopt Bobby, he spent 183 days in the shelter with no one giving him a second look but that didn’t deter him from living his best possible life in the shelter even though he was still battling with grief and depression and regularly thought of his mother and sibling and that’s known when he sits alone unresponsive to anything except when someone calls her name. It was as if he didn’t want his mother’s sacrifice to go to waste and that was what his mother would have wanted for him, to make friends, have fun, and not just suck in a corner in the shelter. He made friends with other dogs and even had his favorite amidst them but soon his friends were adopted and went off to start a new life leaving him even more lonely and alone. The rescue workers became even more worried that he might slowly become depressed again since his friends had left him so they would take him to the fields along with other dogs so he could mingle once again.
On day 184, a young man and his kid walked in to adopt a dog, the man wanted a playmate for his 5-year-old child. They had almost given up on their search for the dog the 5-year-old boy wanted when they saw Bobby curled up in his cage, the boy was the first to approach him, and both bonded at first sight. The boy nodded to his dad Bobby was the dog he wanted, papers were signed and an adoption card was issued to set Bobby off to his new life. When the boy approached and showed the card to Bobby, he attempted to take it off his hand as if he could read and knew what it meant to have that card and tell him “Yes, I will go with you, let’s be best friends and inseparable forever”. The father-son duo took him into his new home after getting him toys, food, and treats.
Bobby’s favorite places to be in the home were either in the boy’s arms where he’s patted with love or the fluffy and soft bed. Just as the dad had predicted that a dog would do more good to the child, the two set it off on the right foot, they were inseparable and would pat each other to sleep while the man read them a bedtime story. On picnics, holidays, camping, and other activities, the two brothers were always there together, playing side by side. It was such a beautiful sight for people to see how they both interacted with one another. When the child started schooling, it was a tussle separating the two to let the child get an education, anytime the school bus came to pick him up, Bobby would walk him to the door, watch him enter the bus as the child wave to him and would wait outside until the bus disappears. Bobby knew the time the bus arrived in the afternoon so he would wait by the door, barking and letting him know he had been waiting for him to come back.
This dog with a devastating past got to be an important part of this family and got absolved into the love, kindness, and compassion with which he was treated. He was taught the basic commands and would be rewarded with treats.
Bobby has now become a happy dog who has a home with a loving family and we hope he continues to live a happy life on behalf of his mom and sibling who are constantly watching over him
